Many people throw around the insult “Touch Grass” and you quickly brush it off but is there more to it than you’re interpreting? Many people these days spend their days industrializing, advancing the human race, but strictly in the fabricated mind space, aka you’re not out there in the biological wilderness pursing the liveliness of the world around you. So the question lies: should you take this personally? I mean you live in an apartment or a home or an apartment home and you have no qualms with the outside world but you don’t really see the point. You’re either inside or outside, regardless, you’re alive, what’s it matter where your location is. To that question we explore further.
Interacting with nature is one of human’s favorite past times. Our earliest ancestors did it quite frequently and some experts may argue that they didn’t do it by choice while most amateurs guarantee that it was indeed done by necessity. Irregardless there are countless lessons that can be learned from this phenomenon.
You may argue that the more human interacted with the nature the more likely they were to die. Based on recent data the lifespan of a human has increased by 45% over the past 50 years so why should I even bother going outside again? The rub is this, you can stay inside or you can’t, who’s to say which one you are? Studies have shown that just a brief interaction beteeen the barefoot and grass have lead to significant increases in human dopamine levels as well as serotonin, an equivalent to smoking a pack of cigarettes a day (in a good way). You may ask what about people without feet? Good question, hands and calves have been noted as equitable substitutes.
If you’re wondering were this going, I’m afraid I don’t have an answer for that. I knew at one point but that was 4 days ago when I originally started writing this.
Since we have some characters left I do have one thing to add not related. With it getting warmer outside, we’re getting to that time of the year when my tap water changes. Not sure why but every year around this time my tap water starts to taste like pool water. Is it the spring fertilizer and pesticides leaking into the water system? Is old pool water getting dumped into the water system? Not sure, but it definitely tastes different and not in a great way. Whatever, stop reading this, touch grass.
