Just a short week later, we return to the queuesome blog’s best segment, spotify playlist reviews, an unnecessary but borderline invasion of random spotify user’s privacy. Today’s listy (POI didn’t catch on) is “Lexi & Dylan’s Favs” (no caps, abbreviation will be LDF for short). A collaborative and ongoing 107 song setlist of what it truly means to be in a rock and roll band. What started out as thanksgiving break (yes spotify shows when people add songs to playlist, we’re just putting 2 and two together) solo project warped into a couples passion project to pass the waking hours of the pending solstice, expanding into an effort of cataloging good hits, swell tunes, and most importantly lexi and dylans fav songs
As all reviews go, we first take a look at the name of the playlist. Hand up, I did not preconceive this title in my mind before searching it much like past reviews, so I can not take credit for the title of the playlist or that the name in this case is truly up for a review (I ideally wanted to review a playlist titled “Dylan, Dylan and Dylan” but it did not exist. If someone makes that I will gladly write a review on it). Anyway, lexi & dylan’s favs, it’s concise, contains proper nouns, and has an ampersand (ascii value 38).
Next, the playlist artwork, which is, as always, (comma city) the most controversial and contentious portion of the review. LDF goes with the custom artwork route, a road taken by few and many alike. Personally, I view it as a cop out (Tracy Morgan movie? Guessing sub 7 on IMDB) because you don’t have to worry about the first four songs you choose, but with such an avant garde selection of the photo above, one can only wonder what the hell that’s supposed to be a picture of. It either makes you want to enjoy one of those new cafes that’s in a town where there’s no cute restaurants in the area or be a wedding guest in the middle of one of those miracles from the New Testament (specifically the one where water is being turned into wine. Wasn’t sure if that was clear enough). Overall, artwork is a 7.9 on IMDB, and Cop Out is a 5.6.
There’s not much to say about the songs in this playlist except that they tell a compelling story of two kids most likely in a relationship that will most likely not be in a relationship by the end of October (and that’s just statistics. I didn’t calculate them, Spotify did). Sticking to positive vibes though, it’s a great mix of different genres that all find a common ground in the oldies we all know and love (especially Petty, can’t forget Petty). We recommend this playlist for those early afternoon soirees in the middle winter months, but that doesn’t also mean it can’t find a home on a late February night when you’re way too cold in a parking lot tailgating a sporting event that isn’t Football or Baseball. All in all, no one is ever upset when they hear Tongue Tied by Grouplove or Pursuit of Happiness by Kid Cudi. These are just facts, gathered through hours of research and multiple peer reviews by legitimate music journalists (We’re a legitimate music blog, but don’t follow up on any of that).
If you wanna check out the playlist or just show the creators, lexi & dylan (and lexi’s sister’s kate for one song [again, not being creepy, just looking at the data spotify shows and making inferences and assumptions]), some love, you can check out and follow the playlist below.
